Petra, the Silk Road, Tbilisi wine culture and mountains that barely anyone has heard of — the most underrated travel region in the world.
The Middle East and Central Asia represent the biggest blind spot in most travellers' maps — and that's precisely why they reward those who go. Jordan is one of the safest and most extraordinary countries in the Arab world. Georgia is the best value country in Europe with food and wine culture that rivals anywhere. Uzbekistan's Silk Road cities are staggering — Samarkand's Registan is as visually overwhelming as the Taj Mahal with a fraction of the crowds. The Caucasus countries (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan) are seeing rapid growth in tourism for good reason — extraordinary landscapes, ancient cultures and prices that feel like Europe 20 years ago.
The rose-red city carved into cliffsides — walk through the Siq at dawn before the crowds.
8,000 years of winemaking in qvevri — oldest wine culture on earth, 2 hours from Tbilisi.
The fairy chimneys at dawn from 300m — still one of the world's great travel experiences.
The Registan, Shah-i-Zinda and the blue-tiled mosques of the Silk Road's greatest city.

Georgia and the Caucasus: May–June and September–October are ideal — warm, clear and not overcrowded. Winter is ski season (Gudauri, December–March). Jordan: October–April — spring is perfect, summers are scorching. Turkey: April–May and September–October for the coasts; Cappadocia is year-round but magical in light snow. Uzbekistan and the Silk Road: April–June and September–October — summer heat in the desert cities is extreme (40°C+).
Georgia does not require a visa for most Western nationalities — simply arrive and you get a 365-day stay. One of the most generous entry policies in the world.
Jordan's Petra is 3 hours from Amman — stay at least one night in Wadi Musa to see the Treasury at dawn and walk the full site without rush.
Uzbekistan visas are now e-visa for most nationalities — straightforward online process. The train between Samarkand, Bukhara and Tashkent is excellent.
The Caucasus countries (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan) share borders but not always land crossings — check current border situations before planning overland routes.
In most of the region, modest dress is appropriate near religious sites — cover shoulders and knees, carry a scarf. This is a mark of respect, not a rule.
